Molina de Segura was born in 1892 and died in 1966. He began his career as a designer for Buick and then moved to Auto Union, where he created many of the company’s iconic cars. Among his most famous designs are the Auto Union Type C and D models, as well as the Mercedes-Benz W196 racing car. Emilio Molina de Segura (1886-1970) was a Spanish racing driver and constructor. He was the son of a coachbuilder, and built his first car while still a student. After winning the Spanish Championship in 1924, he moved to France and competed in the World Sportscar Championship, achieving third place in 1927 and 1928. He returned to Spain in 1931 and won the National Championship that year. In 1932 he finished second in the World Drivers’ Championship behind Luigi Villoresi. In 1933 he finished fourth in the World Drivers’ Championship behind Jean Behra, James Hunt and Tazio Nuvolari. In 1934 he won the European Drivers’ Championship, one of only two drivers to do so that season. He repeated his European win in 1935 and also finished second in the World Drivers’ Championship to Behra. In 1936 he retired from racing due to illness, but continued to build cars until his death.
